Bringing Your Dog? Here are some safety guidelines

COVID & Health Awareness

The health and safety of our volunteers and the well-being of our participants, sponsors and vendors are of utmost importance to us. Therefore we ask that everyone should assess their own risk factor and level of comfortability.

If you experience any symptoms or feel ill, please consider switching to the virtual event.

Children & Animal Awareness

At the event your pet will be exposed to small children, other dogs, people speaking loudly on microphones, loud music, crowds clapping and attendees cheering. You know your pet best, so please use your best judgment to make sure that your pet will enjoy the event just as much as you will. It's okay if you choose to leave your pet at home.

If you decide to bring your dog with you, please READ ALL INSTRUCTIONS below and FOLLOW the guidelines to ensure you, your pet and everyone else have a great time. Our goal on race day is for everyone to have a BLAST and save as many animal lives as possible.  We have a few rules to make it safe for everyone:

Race Day Rules for Pet Owners:

  • Dogs must be neutered.

  • Dogs must be well-behaved and non-aggressive with people and other dogs.

  • Dogs must be good with children.

  • No dogs off leash at any time.

  • Dogs must be current on all vaccines.

  • Please do not bring puppies who have not completed all their shots.

  • No extendable leashes.

  • No leashes longer than 6 feet.

  • Only one dog per runner or walker.

  • Pet owners must be 18 years or older.  No children are allowed to walk dogs on race day.

“Droppings”

Nature calls. Expect your dog to have to do their business along the race. It is the responsibility of the owner to pick up. Poop bags will be included in the pickup packet at check-in/ registration. There will be no trash cans along the way so please bring all used bags back and dispose of them in the trash cans near the pavillon.

Important Tips To Consider On Race Day:

  • IF YOU ARE RUNNING or WALKING WITH YOUR DOG, MAKE SURE YOUR DOG CAN TOLERATE THE DISTANCE and TEMPERATURE.

  1. If this is your first time please make sure you line up along the back or the side, giving your dog enough space to get acclimated.

  • ALL WALKERS should line up along the back of the starting line.

  • If you have a pet breed with you that can’t tolerate this kind of exertion, (for example, English Bulldogs), please consider bringing a dog carrier, stroller or wagon.

  •

  • KEEP YOUR DOG HYDRATED!
Pet water stations will be scattered throughout the course and expo area. These are communal bowls, so if you have a puppy or elderly pet, please keep it safe and bring a travel or disposable bowl for their use.

  • PROTECT SMALL DOGS. There will be many large and super large dogs at the event. Carry your tiny dog or put it in a stroller to keep it safe.

NOTICE TO PARENTS WITH SMALL CHILDREN:

Parents please educate your child on how to approach a dog.  While we are always careful watching the crowds and pets to ensure everyone stays safe, IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO WATCH YOUR CHILD AND OTHER PETS; and it only takes a second for a dog bite to occur.

Please review safe dog greeting behaviors with your child before attending the event.  Remind your child to always ask the owner’s permission to pet an animal, allow the calm pet to sniff their hands and then they should gently pet the animal’s chest, chin or back (not the top of its head), speaking calmly and quietly to the pet.

Children should never “stare down” a dog, jump on it, grab it from behind or scream at it.  If a dog is hyper and won’t sit for the owner, walk away and don’t allow your child to pet the dog.  Sometimes the most well behaved pets can be startled, especially if they’re already keyed up being at such an exciting event.
