In the 5th year of this popular local event and due to the rise of COVID-19 restrictions, the ARF 5K was switched to a VIRTUAL event. The transition to virtual gave our loyal participants the opportunity to still go the “social distance” to support the Animal Rescue Foundation and be able to go out and enjoy some fresh air!  While it was a difficult decision and sad that we were not be able to gather at Memorial Park in Beacon, we were pleased to be able to continue to connect with our sponsors, donors and fans on a virtual level and still keep our promise to the cats and dogs at ARF. Our number one priority was the health and well-being of everyone.

HOW DID WE DO IT?

For 30 days between May 17th and June 17th, 2020, participants were able to complete a 5 Kilometer run and/or walk (5K kilometers = 3.1 miles) in the comfort of their own neighborhood or on a treadmill. They chose the date, the time and mapped out a course in their neighborhood or a nearby park. They had to keep track of their time and distance using a stopwatch, a GPS watch or their smartphone. Once completed and if they wanted to be considered for awards, they immediately uploaded their finish time and distance to the Runsignup virtual leaderboard.

If they participated in any of the physical events from 2016 to 2019, they were encouraged to wear their t-shirt from that year and take a selfie and share it on their social media pages with the tag #ARF5KSocialDistance. First timers were encouraged to create their own poster to show  their love and support of ARF!

Trophies were awarded and mailed to the top 3 overall males and females.

In addition, prizes were awarded to our Top Individual AND Team Fundraisers.
